It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing
of our founding artistic director, and artistic director emeritus,

Frank Heller

FRANK A. HELLER, III, 65 PASSED AWAY TUESDAY, MARCH 17, 2020. 
HE WAS BORN SEPTEMBER 18, 1954 THE SON OF THE LATE FRANK A. HELLER, JR. AND SUE HELLER.
FRANK GRACED THE LOUISVILLE AND SURROUNDING AREAS WITH HIS MUSICAL TALENT FOR OVER 45 YEARS.  HE GREW UP AT HARVEY BROWNE MEMORIAL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH WHERE HE STARTED HIS CAREER AND 20-YEAR TENURE AS DIRECTOR OF MUSIC. DURING HIS TIME THERE HE WORKED WITH ALL AGE GROUPS AND HELPED BUILD A LOVE OF MUSIC IN MANY PEOPLE.  HE THEN CONTINUED AND RETIRED FROM HIS CAREER AS THE DIRECTOR OF MUSIC MINISTRIES AT HIGHLAND PRESBYTERIAN WHERE HE ALSO WORKED FOR 20 YEARS.  
THROUGHOUT HIS LIFE, HE ENRICHED THE COMMUNITY DIRECTING THE LOUISVILLE YOUTH CHOIR FOR 17 SEASONS, WHERE HE WAS BOTH ARTISTIC DIRECTOR AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF MUSIC.  HE ALSO WAS THE FOUNDER AND THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF VOCES NOVAE, AN ADULT COMMUNITY CHOIR FOR 26 YEARS. IN ADDITION, HE TAUGHT MANY STUDENTS AS A PRIVATE VOCAL INSTRUCTOR AND WAS A CERTIFIED MASTER TEACHER IN CREATIVE MOTION®, AN INNOVATIVE METHOD OF MUSICAL LEARNING. HE TAUGHT VOICE AT BELLARMINE UNIVERSITY IN LOUISVILLE, AS WELL AS CONDUCTED THE UNIVERSITY CHORUS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISVILLE. MR. HELLER SERVED AS BOTH PRESIDENT AND TREASURER OF THE KENTUCKY CHAPTER OF THE AMERICAN CHORAL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION. IN 2000, HE WAS HONORED BY KCDA AND CHOSEN AS THEIR RECIPIENT OF THE ROBERT K. BAAR CHORAL EXCELLENCE AWARD.
FRANK HAD A LOVE FOR MUSIC WHICH WAS CONTAGIOUS.  THROUGH HIS MANY CHORAL EXPERIENCES HE BUILT AN APPRECIATION AND COMMITMENT TO MUSIC IN YOUNG MUSICIANS. HE WILL TRULY BE MISSED WITHIN THE COMMUNITY AND BY HIS FAMILY.  
LEFT TO CHERISH HIS MEMORY ARE HIS WIFE DONNA (MARTIN) HELLER OF 44 YEARS, THREE BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTERS JENNIFER PROCITA, SHANNON CUSTARD (MATT), AND APRIL COOK (TIM); SIX WONDERFUL GRANDCHILDREN, HUNTER JAMES AND LILLYAN MICHELLE COOK, MASON ERIC AND WYATT LEE CUSTARD, EZEKIEL DAVID AND JASMINE RAE PROCITA; HIS SISTER SUSAN ZELLER (JIM) AND BROTHER LEE HELLER.

A CELEBRATION OF FRANK’S LIFE WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN THE UPCOMING WEEKS.
